Bike Fort Collins

Standard

Mark your calendars!  This year I’m participating in the second annual Bike Art Show on June 3rd at the Downtown Artery.  Artists are supposed to design a commuter bike helmet to be auctioned off at the First Friday event and proceeds benefit Bike Fort Collins, and the community comes and votes for their favorite one.

I referenced an older series I’ve done for this project.  The whole series was on old glass windows, and all had lace on the front and paint on the back.  Here are some examples:

More shots of the helmet, which I’m also titling “Save the Humans”:

Small Blossoms

Standard

SOLD (8x8in on Canvas Panel)

I was touching up the cherry blossoms painting from the other day and the little branch I was using for reference looked so cute in the little vase I had it in, that I decided to paint it too.

Just as it is

Standard

$20.00 USD (4x6in on Watercolor paper, framed)

My sister and I made homemade stamps for print making while she was here.  I went to draw on this one but loved it too much as it was.  And then I found this frame for it, so good.

Getting more prints ready for the May YART sale at the Downtown Artery here in Fort Collins.

Seuss Trees

Standard

$140.00 USD (20x20in on Stretched Canvas)

These pink cherry blossom trees are blooming everywhere in my neighborhood.  I can’t help but think they look like something Dr. Seuss would write about.

Wadene’s Tulips

Standard

My neighbor Wadene has the most beautiful front yard full of flowers.  We happened to be strolling by on a walk the other evening and she cut us a bunch to take home.  I wanted to paint them for her as a thank you.  This is from photos, but I think I’ll try them from life tomorrow – having a couple friends over to paint with us tomorrow!

Creative time with Sister

Standard

$20.00 USD (9x11in on Watercolor Paper, unframed)

Continuing with the indoor activities while baby sleeps and the weather isn’t super.  We had a little creative session with paint and home made stamps.  My sister draws lot of nautical things and I found myself super inspired by some of her ideas.  Here’s a mermaid I did this morning after the sunflower at the top.

Back to the Basics

Standard

SOLD (8x8in on canvas panel)

I had that ‘I need to paint but I just don’t know what’ feeling today.  So I went back to the basics and cut up an apple.  Originally I wanted to paint glass, but it just didn’t fit in this little canvas, there would have been a lot of negative -white- space.  So I simplified. Here’s my 20 min apple.

Le Creuset Beta No.2

Standard

Commission, 24x36in on Stretched Canvas

This is the second half of a commission for a friend’s wall.  We decided the one might just not be big enough.  They will sure add a lot of color to the room.

Here they are next to each other;

Beta No.2

Working on another Beta Fish painting to go with it’s first > we have a big wall to fill!  The colors for this one are purple, orange, yellow and teal.  Yum!  I popped this little guy out while my baby and visiting sister are napping.  Yessss.

Don’t feed the artists. Buy their art, they can feed themselves.

The studio is filling up again and it’s time to remind everyone what’s still around and looking for a home.  The next YART sale isn’t till May, so here’s a preview of the larger stuff I’m not supposed to bring to those sales ::wink::

Dark Eyed Gibbs

Standard

SOLD (commission, 16x20in)

Taking advantage of these last couple days before visitors come – the next month is full of family coming!  I love this, but also know I need to be responsible to my commission orders.

Dog portraits can be fun – when the dog has fun features and lots of color.  Sometimes I sit there crossing my fingers the whole time, after all, the owner knows them so well and I just get a few photos!  This is Gibbs, and she has pretty dark eyes.

Mother’s Day Trio

Standard

(10x10in on stretched canvas)

Wow, it’s been a couple weeks since I’ve posted anything – I have been painting, and also mothering.  ::smile::  My husband and I have actually been working on his recording studio a lot this month!  The laundry room / workshop part is almost ready, and we’re about to finish the insulation for the actual studio space.  So things are movin’ and shakin’ over here.

I got to do these three memories for a friend last week.  She’s a photographer herself and picked some great shots.  I really enjoyed painting these gems.

Moms Who Paint

Standard

The mommas painting day finally happened!  And boy was it nuts.  The gals and the kids did great, and I bet we learned some things to do better next time.  I’d really love to paint this bouquet again, but I’m happy with the result today.  It’s going to an event a group of people at my church are hosting and discussing the effects of pornography on the brain.  Here’s the info.

And here are some action shots from today:
