202 A Pirates Life for Me

Standard

Commission – N/A

I had SO much fun with this one.  This is the second of five in a children’s room Peter Pan series.  She loves the pirates and mom sent me a photo so I could add her right in with them.  Excited to keep going, on to the next one!

201 Another Kids Room Series

Standard

Commission.  N/A

I know a little girl who LOVES Peter Pan.  So her mom commissioned me for a series of 5 paintings with a list of her favorite characters.  This is such a fun project!  All different sizes and styles, get ready.

And hopefully there’s no copy-right issues ; )

What a sweet intimate scene.  Luckily, this painting just flowed with me the whole time – I LOVE that.  One thing I would edit if you could just photo shot paintings, is that I split the canvas to evenly in half.  Whoops!  Maybe I shouldn’t have said anything : ).  I yellowed-up the sidewalk a little bit so the over all composition wasn’t so grey.  I’m all about that color.

This is the third ‘theme’ I’m considering for the 2015 transformer cabinet I’ll be painting in City Park this summer.  I call it “things to do at City Park.” One of my students actually gave me the idea.  The city then picks which theme they like best and I will create what each side of the cabinet looks like in that theme.

Here are the other themes I’ll be sending the city:

Monocle No.2 | 12x12in | Acrylic on Masonite | $35

Still lifes with retro patterns

Welp, off to enjoy the sunshine!

In my downtime…

Standard

No time to actually paint today – the sun came out again ::smile::

But tomorrow I have all day so get excited to see some fun commission happen.  That’s what’s nice about commissions, I can always work on them when I’m not feeling inspired or creative enough to do my own.

I prepped a series of 5 paintings for a kiddo’s room today, check it out:

photo 1 (33)

I know there’s 6 images here, but they were just too fun so I did an extra in case I liked that composition better.

Excuse to ‘art’

Standard

“Do something art everyday.”  -lots of people

Teaching kids art is usually when I get my drawing practice in.  Tuesdays especially are fun because the 8 year old I draw with always wants to draw the coolest things!  Today she brought her atlas and we drew animals from different countries.

199 A Painting Just Because

Standard

(24x242in Acrylic on Stretched Canvas, SOLD)

A friend and old coworker of mine commissioned me to do a surprise painting for her boyfriend.  No occasion, just because.  How exciting!  She liked the coffee drinker portraits I did for Mugs Coffee Lounge and wanted a similar style.  I love this style because it incorporates my favorite elements; hints of realism and lots of color collage.  I love mixing the two.  Enjoy it my friend!

198 Two Americaunas

Here it is!  The last addition to the trio of hen paintings for a dear friend.  I switched up the reference photo last minute so she wouldn’t have two of the same sort of compositions.  I originally had a head shot of just one of these gals, but this double shot was so much more interesting.

197 Bike Month Entry

Standard

(this painting will be hanging in a show for Bike Month during June 2015, if you purchase it I will not be able to ship it till the end of the month)

$95.00 USD (16x20in on Stretched Canvas)

Akinz in Old Town Fort Collins is featuring different artists’s bike art for the month of June in honor of Bike Month.  I whipped up this guy in memory of a little series I did back in December.  I just love the perspective – though, now that I’m pregnant I get a little vertigo when I look at the biker in the bottom corner too long ::wink::.  Go to Akinz and check out this and all the other bike art next month!

196 Lucas’ Bear

A friend of mine is a personal trainer, particularly for pregnant and new mommas who want to stay healthy during and after pregnancy.  Anyways, we’re doing a skill trade; a painting for her baby’s room for a couple postpartum work out sessions.  This is what we came up with for her little guy’s room.  I love making these fun mixed media collages.  Good choice friend.

195 Modern Charm

Standard

$95.00 USD (16x20in on Stretched Canvas)

This is the third one so far in the wallpaper series I’m doing for my church.  I was really nervous about the print on this one, it took much reworking and color adjusting, but I like how it turned out.  I focused most of the detail right around the vase of flowers, I like to mix soft and hard edges while keeping the focus on the subject.  Didn’t the shadow turn out pretty cool?  I was skeptical painting it like the photo (from morguefile) had it but it reads really well.  Praise God.

194 Neighborhood Iris

Standard

SOLD (8x8in on Canvas Panel)

It was fun making all these oranges and pinks for this painting, yum.  There are some beautiful gardens and landscaping in my neighborhood, I’ll have to keep snapping photos.  A few doors down has a HUGE poppy bush with pods the size of my fist!  I keep walking by to see if they’ve popped.  I’ll keep you posted.

193 Corner Vase

Standard

$95.00 USD (16x20in on Stretched Canvas)

Working on a wall paper series for a recently re-done room at church.  They wanted a ‘homey’ feel.  I’m still figuring out how to paint wall paper patterns in a way that I like, anyone know any artists that paint lots of patterns in the background? I found Diane Hoeptner on the Daily Paintworks website, but if anyone knows of others I’d love to study them.  My art room still has a bed in it from when family was here this weekend, but I felt the need to paint something, I don’t want to get too rusty.

192 Raven

Standard

N/A

A family friend’s dog recently passed away and my mom requested a painting to give as a gift.  The pictures she sent me were so sweet, looked like a really wonderful pup.

191 Moose

Standard

N/A

This has been the week of commissions as I prepare for my family to show up.  My sister is sleeping in the art room so I’m trying to get all the time sensitive commissions done before the paint’s all packed up.

This is round 2 of hens for the neighbors.  Meet Moose, an Ameraucana.  She had lots of fun colors to paint and a great pose.

Triathlon Commission

Standard

SOLD

A friend of mine (I got to paint a secret birthday painting for him from his triathlon in Boulder) passed along my information to his other triathlon buddies and I recently was commissioned to do this portrait.  Took a little adjusting to get some details just right, but all in all another fun one.  Hope they enjoy it!

190 Thirsty Orchid

Standard

$85.00 USD (16x20in on Stretched Canvas)

I know you’re not supposed to say this as an artist, but I’m not sure how I feel about this one.  Might have to count it as a practice sketch.  I’ll post it in case someone’s in love – totally allowed – it’s just not quite how I was hoping to capture it.  Might try again.  The glass pitcher turned out cool, but go figure, I love painting glass.

New idea

Standard

Today was all about organizing the house, so I didn’t get a chance to paint.  But I did get some sketch time with a little friend in an art lesson.  This is the same little friend who inspired the Lion Fish painting – she’s fun to draw with.  And oh yeah, she’s 8.  Anyways, we set up this great still life with the orchid I got from my coworkers and a pitcher of ice tea.  Then we just free handed any wall paper pattern we wanted.  I LOVED how it turned out and want to do a couple still lifes in this genre.  Stay tuned.

188 Dart

Standard

N/A

This is Dart, one of my neighbor’s chickens.  They’re moving to Oregon this month and they can’t take the chickens with them, so she requested a few to be painted so she can remember the joy they used to bring her.  One of the BEST reasons to want a painting – ever. I hope to do a few more chickens this week.

187 Last Day Orchids

Standard

N/A

My last day at work was yesterday, and it was a great send off.  Thanks to everyone!  I felt very loved and appreciated.  Anyways, they sent me off with a beautiful orchid and I knew I’d be painting it soon.  It’s been a few days since I’ve gotten to sit down and paint, and I could feel the muscles working out the rust – but hey> just means the next one will be that much better.

Happy One Year

Hey – It’s May!

That means it’s been a year since I jumped on the Daily Painting bandwagon!  Let’s give something away : ).
